A very important part of the print design process is colour management. It is the controlled conversion between the colour representations of various devices, such as image scanners, digital cameras, monitors, computer printers, offset presses, and corresponding media.
The primary goal of colour management is to obtain a good match across colour devices. For example a photo should appear the same colour on a computer monitor and on the printed document. Colour management helps to achieve the same appearance on all of these devices provided the devices are capable of delivering the needed colour intensities.
I have all my hardware and software running colour management. It can be quite hard to setup properly and this is why some in the industry choose not to do so. I make sure that my print suppliers run colour mangement so that the highest quality printed material can be delivered to the customer.
